Doctors Remove Needle From Man’s Heart In Rare Surgery At Odisha’s SCBMCH

Cuttack: Successfully performing a rare surgery, doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack removed a needle from the heart of a patient.

The condition of patient, identified as Niwas Sharma of VSS Nagar area in Bhubaneswar, is stated to be stable following the surgery conducted by the doctors at the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery department of the hospital, sources said.

As per reports, a needle got pierced into the chest of the 31-year-old man while he was sleeping. The needle got stuck in the left side of his heart, causing severe pain.

Following severe pain, Niwas visited hospitals in Bhubaneswar, but the surgery could not be conducted. Finally, he rushed to the SCB Medical and Hospital in Cuttack.

A three-member team of doctors led by Cardiothoracic department HoD Manoj Patnaik examined the patient, who was admitted in the hospital on Saturday. The doctors performed the rare surgery on Sunday to remove the needle. The team of doctors successfully removed a 4.5-inch-long needle from the patient’s heart.

It may be noted here that doctors at AIIMS Bhubaneswar recently conducted a rare surgery and removed a sewing needle from the lungs of a nine-year-old boy.
