New Delhi: “I’m sad to announce, my father Donald Trump has passed away. I will be running for President in 2024,” read a post on Donald Trump Jr’s verified X account on Wednesday evening (8.46 am US east coast time).
The post garnered over 1.4 lakh views in 2 hours.
There were other objectionable tweets from the handle also, including one targeting President Joe Biden and another saying ‘North Korea is about to get smoked.’
It all turned out to be fake news as Trump Jr said his X account was hacked and was sending a series of offensive tweets, reported New York Post.
Around 20 minutes after the fake death announcement, the 77-year-old former President posted an unrelated message on Truth Social, proving he was very much alive.
The tweets were swiftly deleted and Trump Jr’s account has been restored.
