The suspension of IIC of Birmitrapur police station came close on the heels of the alleged custody death of Md Tariq Salim, who was detained in connection with the kidnap of businessman Pradeep Kundu.
Tariq, a resident of Karbala Road area in Birmitrapur town, was reportedly apprehended from Simdega district in Jharkhand on Wednesday. His health condition deteriorated the following day and he was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where he was declared dead.
Family sources, however, said Tariq was picked up from Vedvyas of Rourkela on Wednesday and allegedly tortured, which led to his death.
