New Delhi: The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has once again warned its citizens not to travel to the India-Nepal border region.
It’s the third such advisory in a month, following India’s crackdown on illegal crossings.
Two Chinese nationals were arrested from the Jatahi-Pipraun border in Bihar on May 29 for allegedly clicking photos and selfies, recording videos at the India-Nepal border. Police said the duo didn’t possess valid travel documents.
Earlier this month, four Chinese nationals were detained after they tried to enter Indian territory via the Nepalese border along Bihar’s Raxaul. None of them was carrying legal documents required to authorise entry into India.
In the latest advisory, posted on social media on Friday, the Chinese Embassy said that despite repeated warnings, some Chinese travellers continue to venture into the border region, leading to detentions on charges of illegal entry into Indian territory.
The Embassy added that while citizens of Nepal and India can freely cross the border between the two nations with identification documents, people from other countries can’t travel to India through Nepal without a visa. Chinese citizens visiting the Nepal-India border area ran the risk of mistakenly entering Indian territory and face arrest, the Embassy warned.
“In order to protect the safety of Chinese citizens in Nepal, the Chinese embassy in Nepal once again solemnly reminds Chinese citizens not to go to the Nepal-India border area,” the statement said, adding that Nepal and India had “comprehensively strengthened patrols and inspections” in recent days.
India has intensified patrolling border areas after it launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, following the deadly Pahalgam massacre of April 22.
