Drilling Starts For Oil Exploration In Odisha’s Puri District

Puri: After completing installation of rigs, the Oil India on Wednesday started the drilling process for exploration of oil and gas in Odisha’s Puri district.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of spud-in ceremony at Kusupur village under Gop block of the district, Mahindra Sharma, Director, Oil India said while the rigging will be conducted through 3 processes of conductor, isolation and oil string, the first phase work began on Wednesday.

“As part of the exploration, the company will carry out drilling, testing and production. After drilling upto 2275 metre in 90 days, we can ascertain the quantity of oil and gas reserve and its area,” he said.

According to company sources, the first phase of drilling through the conductor process, a hole with a diamtre of 17 inch will be dug up and casing with 13 inch fitted upto 350 metre. After completion of all phases of drilling, perforation and wiring would be carried out to determine the oil exploration.

As per the Oil India’s seismic survey report-2018, there are oil reserves in Kusupur, Chitra and Astarang of the Puri district. On the basis of this report, the company started exploration in 8 acre area of Kusupur in the first phase.
