Bhubaneswar: The drive to identify traders carrying out their business without mandatory licence kicked off on Monday.
The private agency, Sparrow Software Pvt Ltd, with which Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed an agreement was handed over identity cards by Municipal Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.
The agency will track and report about vendors who are running business without obtaining trade license. The agency has identified 40 field surveyors and it will be paid Rs 47.80 per business unit surveyed. However, the survey will not cover roadside mobile vendors. After receiving a report from the agency, BMC will take further actions to regularise the process of enforcing the mandate.
“The survey will take about a month’s time to identify the defaulters. The agency will collect ward-wise information with location details and related information for easy identification,” said Srimanta Mishra, Deputy Commissioner, Revenue.
Among others, Abanaikanta Pattanaik, Additional Commissioner, Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Commissioner (Sanitation) and Lilan Prasad Sahoo, Assistant Commissioner (PR and Communication).
According to BMC, more than 50,000 business units are functioning under its jurisdiction at present. But, only 13,000 business units have obtained licenses causing loss of revenue to the public exchequer.
