Drug Peddlers Nabbed In Odisha’s Rourkela; Youngsters Were Their Target
Rourkela: Cracking down on drug mafia in the city, Rourkela police on Monday arrested six persons involved in distribution of narcotics. Two more accused managed to abscond from the spot.
The accused are Roshan Ray, Md Irfan Alam, Md Nasim, Md Jarad, Vivek Sonkar and Bajrang Shah.
Plantsite police conducted the raids at two places in the city and seized 322.34 gm heroin worth Rs 8 lakh. The officials recovered two 7.65 mm country made pistols, 7 round live bullets and Rs 1.26 lakh cash from the accused.
According to reports, the peddlers were part of a racket engaged in selling drugs in the city and were targeting youngsters. With complaints of such trade being reported at different police station, the Steel City police formed a special team and mounted surveillance in the last three months.
Addressing mediapersons, SP Mukesh K Bhamoo said the police teams seized drugs, arms and ammunition from the accused. “We have frozen fixed deposit bond of Rs 25 lakh and a savings account having deposit of Rs 12 lakh,” he added.
Police also seized three two-wheelers, one motorcycle and six mobile phones. Further investigation is on.
