Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has identified the prime accused in the alleged brutal murder of Sahadev Nayak on National Highway-16 near Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said that three persons have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the incident and are being questioned. “The accused and the victim belong to the same locality. Prima facie it appears to be the fallout of previous enmity,” he said.
Nayak was a resident of Kedarpalli area and the President of BMC Sanitation Employees’ Association.
The DCP further stated that special police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused.
Responding to allegation of Nayak’s wife that he was murdered by drug peddlers, Mishra said all angles in the case are being probed and efforts being made solve it at the earliest.
According to the wife of the victim, Rama Nayak, Nilu Nayak, Susei Nayak and 4-5 other people had threatened to kill him for opposing and stopping the illegal activity in the locality. “I demand justice and the immediate arrest of the accused, or else I will set myself on fire in front of the police station,” said the grieving wife.
Meanwhile, a video clip has surfaced in which two men can be seen fleeing on a motorcycle, carrying a huge bag, after decapitating Nayak using a sword on Rasulgarh Road Over Bridge (ROB) at around 8 am. It is being said that they had hid the sword in the bag.
