‘Drunk’ Doctor Thrashed Over Patient’s Death In State-Run MCH In Odisha’s Balangir
Balangir: Tension ran high at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Balangir district as attendants of patient thrashed the on-duty doctor, who was allegedly found drunk, on Monday night.
According to sources, Niku Barik of Kandhapalipara area was admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital around 5 pm on Monday. The doctor on the round told them that Niku had been administered saline and injection. However, Niku started complaining of severe pain around 8 pm. However, no doctor was not available to attend to him for over three hours, leading to his death.
The next doctor on duty arrived in the ward around 11 pm and declared him dead. When questioned over the delay in his arrival, the doctor allegedly told his family that he was in the ICU.
Moments later, the patient’s kin realised that the doctor was in an inebriated state and one among them started thrashing him. The doctor was later rescued by the security guards.
While Niku’s family has demanded action against the doctor, the hospital authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
