Bhadrak: In view of Kalash Shobha Yatra ahead of Ram Navami celebrations, the Bhadrak administration in Odisha has declared a dry day in Basudevpur area, imposing a complete ban on liquor sales to maintain law and order and preserve the sanctity of the festival.

The District Excise Office issued the order, directing all IMFL OFF shops, Hotel/Restaurant ON shops, CL shops, bhang shops, and tari shops in Basudevpur to remain closed on March 25. The prohibition also covers sales in hotels, bars, and restaurants, with restrictions extended to other intoxicants. The administration has also ordered the closure of meat shops.

Sources stated that the move aims to prevent any untoward incidents during the grand procession, which will begin at 1 pm from Salandi Ghat and wind through the main thoroughfares of the town before the Kalash is ceremoniously installed at the Maha Yajna Mandap at Gandhi Ground, where the Maha Yagya will commence in the evening.

The yatra is anticipated to draw lakhs of devotees.

Meanwhile, Bhadrak Police has been conducting flag marches across Bhadrak to ensure smooth conduct of festival and maintain law and order. A massive force of 35 platoons, comprising around 250 officers and personnel led by Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout, has been deployed at sensitive points. Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams and riot control vehicles are also maintaining strict vigil.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi issued firm instructions to Odisha Police to take all precautionary measures and ensure incident-free Ram Navami celebrations, underlining the importance of maintaining communal harmony.
