Puri: The revamped cremation ground in Odisha’s Puri, Swargadwar, received a facelift under the development plan of the state government.
Puri district administration conducted a dry run of cremation at the newly-built crematorium on Thursday in the presence of Collector Samarth Verma and other senior officials.
Wood was burnt to check if multiple cremations can be conducted at one time without any issues.
It may be mentioned here that the state government had allocated Rs 5 crore for development work of Swargadwara in Puri in 2019. Some renovation work is still underway.
Arrangements like rest-sheds for pall-bearers, drinking water facilities, special venues for conduct of death rituals, CCTV cameras, and toilets have been made in enclosed areas.
It may be noted here that the Swargadwar has been revamped on the lines of the famous crematorium ‘Mahaprasthanam’ of Telangana.
