Bhubaneswar: Ace sprinter from Odisha Dutee Chand won a gold medal in the 100-metre sprint at the 30th World University Games in Napoli, Italy on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian to do so.
Dutee on Monday had qualified for the final after clocking 11.41 seconds in the semi-final event. In the final, she bettered her performance and won the gold with a timing of 11.32 seconds.
Notably, Dutee is the only athlete from Odisha who has found a place in the national team for the World University Games.
“Pull me down, I will come back stronger! “, Dutee posted this message on Twitter soon after winning the gold.
Meanwhile, the President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan have congratulated Dutee for her stupendous performance.
