Cuttack: To ensure the smooth conduct of the world famous Puri Rath Yatra scheduled to kick off from July 4, Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma has assigned specific duties to senior police officers.
ADG, Railways and Coastal Security, Pranabindu Acharya, will supervise the arrangements for Railways Police for the festival. He will be assisted by SRP, Cuttack along with other officers assigned for this duty.
ADG, Law and Order, Sanjeeb Panda, will remain in overall charge of police arrangements. He will be assisted by the IGP, Central Range, Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi, and Puri SP, Uma Shankar Das.
IG, Intelligence, RK Sharma will supervise the security and Special Branch arrangements.
IGP, Special Armed Police, Amitabh Thakur will supervise traffic arrangements during Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra (July 12), Sunabesha (July 13) and the other important rituals during this period. He will be assisted by SP, CID, Crime Branch, Madkar Sandeep Sampat, and SP, Special Task Force, Rahul PR.
In addition to the general police arrangement, IGP, Central Range, Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi will supervise police arrangements inside the temple and liaison with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and the Chhattisha Nijog from Nabajoubana Darshan (July 2) till Niladri Bije (July 15).
IGP, Headquarters, Asheet Kumar Panigrahi will supervise the arrangements for crowd control during Rath Yatra, Sandhya Darshan (July 11), Bahuda Yatra and Sunabesha. He will be assisted by the AIG, Headquarters, Vivekananda Sharma.
IGP, CID CBI, Arun Bothra will supervise the arrangements and crowd control within and adjacent to the cordons around the three chariots during Rath Yatra, pulling of the chariots, Bahuda Yatra and Sunabesha.
SP, Signals, BN Das will supervise the communication arrangement and ensure adequate mobilization of equipment and manpower as per the requirements of the Puri SP.
Commandant, 6th IR Battalion, Khurda, RK Sahoo will supervise the arrangements made for the movement of VIPs and coordinate the arrangements for them with special units in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar during Rath Yatra.
Commandant, Basic Training Institute (BTI), Burla, BK Nanda will function as the camp commandant and ensure timely reporting of the personnel and officers during the festival and proper arrangements for their stay, hygiene, discipline and welfare, etc in consultation with the Puri SP.
Additional SP, Cuttack, AC Pahi will remain in charge of the control room at the Town Police Station in Puri during Rath Yatra.
The Puri SP will make the police arrangements in consultation with respective supervisory officers.
