New Delhi: Central government has instructed all ministries and departments to maintain a register of government servants in the age bracket of 50-55 years and those having completed 30 years in service, as it contemplates weeding out “corrupt” and “inefficient” officials, according to ThePrint.

Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an order to all ministries and government departments saying that they will need to conduct officials’ quarterly review. This is to ascertain individuals who need to be prematurely retired from service. The retirement age in government jobs is 58 years.

“In order to bring in better clarity to the existing instructions and enable uniform implementation, an effort has been made to review, consolidate and reiterate the guidelines so far issued on the subject at one place,” said a DoPT communication on 28 August.

“The register of the government servants who are due to attain the age of 50/55 years or to complete 30 years of service, has to be maintained,” added the order, according to ThePrint.

“The government has been very proactive when it comes to weeding out corrupt officials…This order simply streamlines the process, and makes it incumbent on ministries to ensure reviews are carried out regularly,” a DoPT official was quoted by the website on condition of anonymity.
