Earthquake Hits Southwest China
Beijing: An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Sunday.
The epicentre of the earthquake, which was felt just after 3 pm (local time), lay in the city of Lijiang, 60 km from the county seat of Ninglang and 3 km from nearest town Yongning, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 20 people were injured, but no death was reported. According to Ninglang administration, a number of fallen tiles from village houses were spotted.
A 60-member search and rescue team was deployed in the region where 24,000 people live.
Last May, a quake measuring 6.1 on Richter scale had struck Yunnan province.
