Tezpur: An earthquake of medium intensity struck parts of Assam on Wednesday evening.
According to National Center for Seismology, the earthquake struck Tezpur in Sonitpur district at 5.54 pm and measured 4.7 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter was 17 km west-northwest of Tezpur town, while the depth of the quake was 10 km.
People panicked and rushed out of their homes. There were, however, no immediate reports of loss of life or major damage to property.
The earthquake in Assam comes five days after a high-intensity earthquake hit Tajikistan in central Asia, tremors of which were felt in Delhi, NCR areas and other parts of north India.
