ECI Team Asks Odisha To Delete 3.45 Lakh Deceased Voters From Electoral Rolls

Bhubaneswar: Following the review meeting on poll preparedness in Odisha, Election Commission of India (ECI) team asked the district collectors to take steps to delete names of deceased voters from the electoral roll.

During the door-to-door survey conducted by booth-level officers, around 3.45 lakh deceased voters were found in the electoral rolls.

The delegation lead by senior deputy election commissioners Dharmendra Sharma and Nitesh Kumar Vyas also directed the collectors to ensure that name of not a single eligible voter is left out o the electoral roll.

Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, Nikunja Dhal said that voters can register their names online. Their voter ID cards will be sent via registered post, he added.

The meeting was held on Wednesday amid speculation that the Centre may introduce ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill during Parliament’s special session from September 18 to 22. Rumours were also abound regarding early Assembly polls in Odisha.
