New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for General Elections 2024 and some state assemblies, including Odisha, on Saturday.
Besides Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Haryana, and Maharashtra will be going to polls this year. Since the Supreme Court has also asked the central government to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, the ECI may also announce the schedule for these respective states at Vigyan Bhawan at 3 pm.
It will also be live streamed on social media platforms of ECI.
The ongoing term of the Lok Sabha will end on June 16, and a new House needs to be constituted before that. The general elections are likely to be held in seven to eight phases.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases between April 11 and May 12.
It may be mentioned here that the model code of conduct will come into effect as soon as the election schedule is declared.
