Bhubaneswar: After converting train coaches into quarantine facilities, the East Coast Railways (ECoR) has now decided to use its workshops, sheds and depots for producing face masks and sanitisers.
As per reports, sanitisers are being prepared as per the standard formula of World Health Organisation (WHO).
The key ingredients include Iso propyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, glycerine and distilled water.
These masks and sanitisers will be made available to the railway staff on duty.
All three divisions of ECoR including Khurda Road, Waltair and Sambalpur are utilising their resources to produce these masks and sanitisers.
Till date, the Khurda Road division has produced nearly 700 masks at the Coaching depots Bhubaneswar and Puri.
Meanwhile, the Electric Loco Shed at Angul has produced 50 litres of alcohol based sanitiser.
The Waltair division has manufactured around 20,000 masks utilising its own resources. Also, 300 litres of sanitiser has been prepared at the Diesel Loco shed in Vishakhapatnam.
In Sambalpur division, 2414 masks have been prepared with the joint efforts of Engineering, Commercial and Mechanical departments. At the same time, 10 litres of sanitiser has been prepared at the coaching depo at Sambalpur.
The Mancheswar workshop has produced nearly 1200 masks and 70 litres of alcohol based sanitiser.
Reportedly, the cost of the in-house production of alcohol based sanitiser and mask is almost one tenth of the market price.
