Bhubaneswar: Enforcement Director (ED) sleuths on Friday questioned chess player Padmini Rout over her alleged links with chit fund firm Star Consultancy.
“I have answered all the questions of the investigating agency officials. I have told them that the company had made me a brand ambassador. However, I am completely unaware about its affairs,” Rout told mediapersons after coming out of the ED office following an hour-long interrogation.
Star Consultancy had allegedly sponsored Rout after she won the World Youth Chess Championship in the girls’ under 14 category in 2008. The company had signed a three-year agreement with her, promising to bear the cost of her coaching and participation in open international tournaments.
The company allegedly duped investors of more than Rs 100 crore on the pretext of quick returns.
The ED had in April attached the assets, including immovable property worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 33 lakh bank balance of Star Consultancy.
