Mumbai: Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor has sought more time to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The central probe agency had asked Ranbir to appear in person at its Raipur office on October 6 in connection with the Mahadev online betting app case.
The ‘Brahmastra’ actor on Thursday requested the ED to give him two weeks’ time to appear before ED officials.
ED has claimed that Ranbir promoted a subsidiary app, which is promoted by Mahadev Book app promoters, and took money in cash.
ED is looking to determine how long Ranbir has been promoting the app, the amount of money he received for the promotions and the method of payment (cheque or cash). ED will also seek information about individuals with whom Ranbir came in contact and ascertain if any contract was signed.
Mahadev Book app is an online betting platform which is being investigated by ED and police in several states for alleged illegal money-laundering activities.
ED claims that the company — promoted by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal — was allegedly run from Dubai, and laundered money through benami accounts.
The alleged scam came to light earlier this year when Chandrakar got married in a lavish and extravagant ceremony for which he reportedly spent Rs 200 crore in cash.
