Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will be probing the financial transactions of former Bhawanipatna MLA Anam Naik, who was earlier arrested by the Odisha Vigilance in a disproportionate assets case.
In January this year, the anti-corruption agency had traced assets to the tune Rs 3.42 crore, including Rs 49 lakhs investment in insurance policies, gold ornaments, and household articles. They also searched a lodge at M Rampur and a liquor shop owned by Naik’s wife.
He was later arrested for allegedly accumulating Rs 1.54 crore property disproportionate to his income.
Naik had worked as a junior clerk in the Revenue Department from 1985 to 2004. He had then resigned and entered active politics. He represented the Bhawanipatna Assembly segment from 2014 to 2019. The BJD, however, denied him a ticket in 2019 elections.
