Boudh: A male elephant with bullet marks was found in Mundeswara reserve forest in Boudh on Wednesday.
A group of women, from Dakapadar village, first spotted the lifeless elephant when they were collecting mushroom. They immediately informed officials in the Madhapur forest range.
According to locals, poachers had failed to extract the two tusks of the male elephant that was killed a few days ago, so they targeted another elephant.
Officials have made arrangements to have the body post-mortemed. They weren’t willing to confirm whether the elephant had been killed by bullets before receiving the post-mortem report.
According to a forest official, the Special Task Force had seized tiger and deer skin during raids over the past one month in neighbouring Nayagarh district and arrested several people.
