Jagatsinghpur: Property dispute took an ugly turn in a village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, when two brothers allegedly tied their mother and two sisters to coconut trees and brutally assaulted them in full public view.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Hasina village under Kujang police limits.
According to sources, Nabaghan Tarai sold half of his house property to his two daughters when his two sons, Bijay Tarai and Gajendra Tarai, did not take care of him and his wife Haramani at old age. This soured relationship between the siblings.
The two sisters Anima and Puspalata Samal would often get into squabble over the issue with them.
On the fateful day, the sisters asked the younger brother to stop construction of a toilet on the land which they claimed belong to them. They even picked up two hoes, which were being used to dig the ground, and attacked him. The elder brother and some neighbours, who were close by, came to his rescue and tied the sisters and their mother to the tree.
On being informed, police soon reached the spot and rescued the trio. The brother admitted to the crime and were later arrested.
