Bhubaneswar: Accusing the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government of misusing state machinery for the upcoming elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded immediate transfer of long-serving police and other officials.
A delegation of state BJP led by Lekhashree Samantsinghar visited the office of Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Bhubaneswar and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate steps for the transfer of government officials serving at one place for more than three years.
Alleging that the ruling party is misusing government machinery for electoral gains, the BJP leaders claimed that at least eight police officers have been working in Bhubaneswar for the last ten years in violation of the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Stating that the ECI’s responsibility is to ensure free and fair elections and the state government must abide by the directions of the poll panel.
Demanding immediate steps to transfer the officers of different departments posted at one place for more than three years, Samantsinghar said many officers have been working at one place for several years and the state government is using them party works.
The BJP leaders cited the names of several police officers and claimed that they have been posted in Bhubaneswar for many years. “These officers must be transferred out of the state capital forthwith to ensure free and fair election,” they said.
