New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry on Sunday, according to reports.
The poll dates are expected to be announced during a press conference scheduled later in the day. The announcement will formally kick off the electoral process in the five regions, where assembly terms are nearing completion in the coming months.
The Model Code of Conduct will come into effect in all the poll-bound states. The dates for notification, nomination filing for candidates, nomination withdrawals, voting and election results will be declared by the poll body. The panel will be led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Similarly, Assam is expected to elect 126 members to its Legislative Assembly, with elections likely to be held before the current Assembly’s tenure ends on May 20, 2026.
Puducherry, which has a 30-member Assembly, is also due for elections before June 2026, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala are also scheduled to hold elections as their current terms come to an end this year.
