Bhubaneswar: The state government has recommended the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to hike the compensation amount for electrocution death and injuries.

Informing this in the State Assembly on Tuesday, Energy Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said Rs 4 lakh will be provided to the family of a person if he/she dies of electrocution as per the recommendation. Besides, Rs 2 lakh will be given in case of 60 per cent burn injuries and Rs 59,500 for 40-60 per cent burns.

Regarding the treatment of the injured persons, the minister said Rs 12,000 will be provided to a patient if he/she undergoes treatment for more than a week in a hospital and Rs 4500 for less than a week.

He further said that a compensation of Rs 30,000 will be paid for the death of a cow or a buffalo and Rs 3000 for the death of a goat, sheep or a pig.

Apart from this, Rs 5000 will be paid towards the damage to poultry farm, Mishra added.
