Bhawanipatna: A three-member fact-finding team has arrived at Karlapat Sanctuary in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Saturday to probe into the death of six elephants.
The team, comprising Dr Karikalan Matthews from the Centre for Wildlife, Bareilly; national convener Elephant Cell Dr Prangyan P Panda and Prof Niranjan Sahu of Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar went to Tentulipadar village inside the sanctuary where the death of the first elephant was reported on February 1.
The team found the carcass of a cow near the stream and sent it for post-mortem.

The team later went to Ghusuriguda village inside the sanctuary where five elephants had died later.
During its stay in the sanctuary till February 22, the team will examine the circumstances that led to the death of the elephants.
