Dhenkanal: A female elephant died after being hit by a goods train in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday evening.
The incident took place when a herd of elephants was crossing the railway line near Barada level crossing under sadar forest range.
Following information, a team of Forest officials rushed to the spot for an on-the-spot investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the female elephant would be around 40 years of age.
Confirming the accident, DRM, Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway, Braj Mohan Agarwal said that no advance cautionary speed restriction was received from the Forest Department in this case. It occurred between 7.15 pm and 7.30 pm, he added.
