Patna: It was no less than sheer humiliation for Bihar Police during the state funeral of Jagannath Mishra on Wednesday, the former state chief minister who died on Monday.
During the customary gun salute in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other dignitaries, 22 rifles carried by the police personnel failed to fire a single shot, leaving the police establishment red-faced, news wire PTI said in a report.
Had the rifles been left redundant due to lack of use?
An embarrassed police officer was seen in a video enquiring from the police about the failed attempt. He even made a quick examination of a cartridge before the police attempted a second time. But the boom was nowhere to be heard.
