Bhubaneswar: An engineering graduate and two other persons were arrested by the Commissionerate Police on charges of conning people with fake job promises at the city-based AIIMS hospital.
Police identified the accused as Sudhir Biswal (37), Aditya Prasad Khadiratna (32) and Debasish Das (29).
Debasish is an engineering graduate and hails from Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district. He currently resides at Laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar. Sudhir and Aditya are residents of Riamal in Deogarh district.
According to reports, the accused fraudsters were operating a placement office from a rented house at Housing Board Colony in Bhubaneswar’s Dumduma area. They had lured four unemployed youths from Bonaigarh in Sundargarh district by promising them jobs at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
As per agreement, the four youths had deposited Rs 3 lakh and their certificates at the placement office for jobs in August last year. Debasish, who operated as the director of the agency, had promised to provide them appointment letters after Dussehra holidays. After receiving the money, however, he started avoiding the aspirants.
Later, one of the victims, Sushil Tripathy, lodged a complaint with Khandagiri police. Based on the complaint, Debasish and his associates were arrested on Saturday.
