Bhubaneswar: JSW Steel and JUSL observed the World Environment Day by planting samplings at its mining and plant areas in Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jagatsinggpur districts of Odisha.
JSW Steel planted around 300 saplings in Jajang, Nuagaon, Narayanposhi and Ganua. Environment Management department along with mines managers, employees of JSW Steel and local villagers carried out the mass planation drive.
The company also created awareness and encouraged locals to minimise use of plastic in keeping with this year’s theme “Solution to Plastic Pollution”. It requested them to choose single use plastic for betterment of environment.
Similarly, JSW Utkal Steel in Paradip planted 5,000 Casuarina saplings in its project area. Since the coastal areas of Paradip often face natural disasters, the company carried out the drive for creation of extensive mangrove forests.
On this occasion, a sand art made by artist Partha Sarthi Jena was on display delivering a message to protect the environment. All senior officials of JUSL were present during the event.
“World Environment Day is a critical reminder that we have a collective responsibility to safeguard our planet. This day encourages every individual, community, government and industry to make positive changes and secure a sustainable future for future generations,” the company said in a release on Monday.
