Estranged Wife Accuses Sambalpur Collector Of Harassment On Facebook
Bhubaneswar: Shuchi Singh, the estranged wife of Sambalpur collector Samarth Verma, has accused the IAS officer of harassing her in a Facebook post. She is an allied officer working with the Indian Railways.
In the post put up on Thursday and addressed to PM of India, Home Minister of India, Minster of Women and Child Development of India and Cabinet Secretary, Shuchi alleged that Verma had been mentally and physically harassing her. She also accused him of not allowing her to appear for civil services exam.
She wrote, “He is trying to destroy my career by illegally accessing my official records. He has also tried to sabotage my career prospects by not allowing me to give the civil services exam peacefully since the marriage. This year too he tried to create problems so that I would fail in the exams by mentally harassing me.”
Shuchi has also levelled domestic violence charges against the collector and alleged that he had been threatening her family with fake cases. “Despite complaining several times about his despicable behaviour to the CM of Odisha and the Chief Secretary of Odisha, so far no action has been taken against such an officer. I fear that his name will be taken as an example that the government takes no action against such officers. He himself has quoted the example of a certain IPS officer who continues in his office of SP despite a case of domestic violence pending against him,” she further wrote.
Shuchi also requested them to ensure that he is removed from the post of the District Magistrate. “Such kind of civil servants, who misuse their power to threaten others weaker than them shouldn’t be allowed to continue in the service and occupy such dignified posts,” she said in the post.
Verma is a mechanical engineer from IIT Kanpur and 2010 batch IAS officer. He reportedly rubbished the charges.
