New Delhi: With Ukraine closing its airspace following Russia’s decision to launch ‘military operation’, the Indian government is trying to work out alternative arrangements to evacuate its nationals from the eastern European country.
Hindustan Times reported on Thursday that alternative evacuation routes are being activated, quoting sources familiar with the development.
A Kyiv-bound Air India plane had to turn back to Delhi this morning.
Officials who can speak Russian have been sent to the embassy in Kyiv as well as Ukraine’s neighbouring countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is holding high-level meetings and keeping a round-the-clock watch on the situation in Ukraine.
The MEA control room in Delhi is being expanded and made operational 24×7 to assist students and other Indian nationals in Ukraine, ANI reported.
The Indian embassy has issued an advisory asking Indian nationals to be calm and remain wherever they were in Ukraine amid the unpredictable situation.
