Srinagar: The Kashmir Files continues to be the most talked-about film of recent times.
Hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and declared tax-free in several states, the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film has been raking in the moolah in the box office.
On Friday, the film which deals with the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said on Friday that ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a concocted story.
“The makers have claimed that the movie is based on reality. But the fact is that many lies have been projected in the film. The biggest lie is that there was a National Conference (NC) government. It was the Governor’s rule in 1990 in J&K when the Kashmiri Pandits left. At the Centre, it was the BJP-backed government headed by VP Singh,” Omar told mediapersons on the sidelines of a rally in south Kashmir.
“Kashmiri Pandits are not the only ones who had to migrate or were killed. Muslims and Sikhs were also killed, they too had to migrate from Kashmir and haven’t returned yet,” Omar added.
He claimed that the NC did try and is still playing its part in bringing back the Kashmiri Pandits safely.
Two days ago, another former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti had accused the Central government of weaponising the pain of Kashmiri Pandits by promoting ‘The Kashmir Files’ aggressively. The PDP chief said instead of healing old wounds and creating a conducive atmosphere between the two communities, the Indian government is deliberately tearing them apart.
Agnihotri has been accorded Y-category security by the Centre as the director has been facing multiple threats on social media.
