Bhawanipatna: A Vigilance court on Friday convicted a former panchayat executive officer (PEO) and a private person on corruption charge and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
The court convicted Raj Kishore Sahu, former PEO of Karlamunda panchayat in the case of recommending the name of a beneficiary to get the IAY house and release of Rs 75,000 in his favour without any construction.
The court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 2 years and pay fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence under section 13(1)(c)(d) PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for 3 more months.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 9 years and 6 months and pay fine of Rs 22,000 under different sections of IPC. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for additional period.
Similarly, the court convicted private person Kishan Kumar and sentenced him to RI for 11 years and imposed fine. In case of default in payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for additional period.
All the sentences against both the accused persons will run concurrently. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Sahu.
