Deogarh: Vigilance sleuths nabbed an Excise officer and an ASI while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a vendor of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the district on Wednesday.
Following a complaint filed by the vendor that Ajit Kumar Mohapatra, in-charge Superintendent of Excise, Deogarh was demanding Rs 1.5 lakh as illegal gratification, the Vigilance officials laid a trap.
They apprehended Mohapatra while accepting the bribe from the vendor through Mathura Mohan Pradhan, ASI of Excise, Deogarh and seized the amount.
Rourkela Vigilance has registered a case in this connection. Simultaneous searches on the house of Mohapatra and Pradhan have been launched in Deogarh and Berhampur. Further investigation is in progress.
