Puri: The Excise officials have seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 40 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection in Odisha’s Puri district.
The Excise department, in a statement on Saturday, said its officials received reliable information that two drug peddlers were going in a car from Rourkela to deliver the brown sugar in Puri on Friday night.
Following the information, the Excise officials conducted a blockade operation and checked the vehicles coming to Puri at Pipili.
They intercepted the car as per the input and checked it. They found the brown sugar from the possession of the two persons going in the car. They seized the brow sugar weighing 378 grams and was estimated to cost more than Rs 40 lakh. They also arrested the two persons.
The arrested persons were identified as Imam Ahemad Raza of Rajgangpur and Muhammad Talha of Rourkela in Sundargarh district.
Both persons were produced in a court and later sent to the jail as their bail applications were rejected by the court.
