Expect Cold Wave In Odisha In One Week: IMD
Bhubaneswar: With a steady fall in the night temperature, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the cold wave will set in Odisha in a week.
“With heavy snowfall in the Himalayan regional, the condition is now favourable for the blowing of northerly winds towards the central and eastern region. With no change in the weather condition in Odisha till next week, the state is expected to experience a cold wave in the next one week,” the IMD said in a release.
An evening release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Thursday said the night temperature remained below 20 degree Celsius in most parts of Odisha including the coastal belt.
While Daringibadi in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest night temperature at 11 degree Celsius, the temperature remained under 15 degrees in Sonepur (14.6), Titlagarh (14.1), Phulbani (13.8), Koraput (13.6), Sundargarh (12.5) and Angul (13.6).
Apart from this, the temperature hovered under 20 degree Celsius in Balasore (16.6), Chandbali (18), Cuttack (16.2), Paradip (19.6), Puri (19.8), Baripada (17.4), Jharsuguda (17), Keonjhar (16), Sambalpur (16.5), Hirakud (17.7), Talcher (18.2), Bhawanipatna (16.2) and Balangir (18).
The night temperature in the state capital remained at 17.8 degree Celsius.
People in the interior districts like Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Koraput and Angul have been comforting themselves by lighting a fire in the night. Most of the trading establishments in the urban areas in these districts are closed by 8 pm, reports said.
