External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Snubs China
The wounds of the skirmish with Chinese Army in eastern Ladakh near LAC almost a year ago, resulting in the death of 20 Indian soldiers, are still raw. The situation seems to be under control currently, but India hasn’t forgotten what it considers to be unprovoked aggression by China.
Cold vibes resurfaced once again as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar boycotted a high-profile ministerial-level UN Security Council meeting convened by China.
Friday’s meeting, presided over by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, saw India being represented by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
Jaishankar’s absence couldn’t have gone unnoticed ministerial-level officials from the other 14 members of Security Council attended the virtual meeting.
China is the UNSC’s president for May 2021.
