Extremely Heavy Rain Alert For Uttarakhand Today, 3 Pilgrims On Way To Kedarnath Killed in Landslide

Rudraprayag: At least three pilgrims, including two from Maharashtra, were reportedly killed and eight others were injured in a landslide triggered by rain on their way to Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand on Sunday. One of the deceased was a native of Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. The injured were undergoing treatment in the hospital, reports claimed.

“Devotees were buried under the debris at Chirbasa on the Kedarnath Yatra route. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force and District Disaster Response Force are conducting rescue operations,” Rudraprayag’s District Magistrate posted on X.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami assured that the rescue work was underway with him being in constant touch with the officials.

“The news of some pilgrims getting injured due to debris and heavy stones falling from the hill near the Kedarnath Yatra route is very sad. Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the accident, I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard. I have given instructions to provide better treatment to the people injured in the accident immediately,” the CM wrote on X.

Earlier in the day, the Gangotri National Highway near Bishanpur was closed due to a landslide, media reports claimed. The MET department had issued a red alert in Uttarakhand for Sunday and Monday, claiming that parts of the state were likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall during this period.
