Bhubaneswar: Smaranika Ransingh, a staff nurse at Capital Hospital here, is an extremely proud woman.

Smaranika administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who was among the senior citizens in the state to receive the jab on Monday.

Besides the CM, the nurse also inoculated Assembly Speaker Surya Narayan Patro among others at the Odisha Assembly dispensary.

“It’s an extremely lucky day for me as I got the opportunity to administer the vaccine to Chief Minister Sir followed by Speaker Sir. I’m immensely happy today,” a beaming Smaranika told the media later.

“The CM repeatedly thanked me. I had earlier seen him umpteen times from far during his visits here, but I had never met him so near. I’m very much grateful to our hospital authorities and colleagues for granting me the opportunity,” the COVID warrior added.

So, did she felt nervous or scared? “No, I was not the least scared nor felt nervous. I was entrusted with the responsibility suddenly today and my joys knew no bounds,” she replied.

What about her vaccination? “I have already taken my first dose and waiting for my turn for the second dose. There is neither any side-effect nor it’s painful. I appeal all to come forward and get vaccinated. It’s safe,” Smaranika said.
