At a time when most of us shirk walking on our legs, preferring to use cars, bikes and scooters, 24-year-old Soubhagya Barad from village Magura under Bolgarh block in Khurda district, has been practicing walking on his hands for the past two years. He has succeeded in walking 300 metres on his hands to make a record and aims to increase the distance in future.
Soubhagya aspires to find a place in the Limca Book of Records and Guinness World Records too. He also hopes to earn recognition and fame for his village and district. He got inspiration from his father and grandfather who were Paika (a martial art form from Odisha) artistes. He learned the complex and flexible moves of Paika from them. The training helped him in walking on his hands.
Soubhagya is a diploma holder in electrical engineering and works in Khurda industrial area. He practices walking on hands in his free time.
“I hope to find success some day with my knowledge of Paika and the desire to make a record,” said Soubhagya.
