New Delhi: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp got partially restored after almost six hours of outage that paralyzed communication through social media platforms.
Facebook along with its WhatsApp and Instagram apps became dark at around noon Eastern time (1600 GMT). According to website monitoring group Downdetector, it was the largest such failure.
At around 5:45 pm ET, some Facebook users started to regain partial access to the three apps, reported news agency Reuters.
The outage on Monday was the second such blow to the social media giant in as many days following a whistleblower’s accusation against the company of repeatedly prioritizing profit over clamping down on hate speech and misinformation.
“To every small and large business, family, and individual who depends on us, I’m sorry,” Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer tweeted, adding that it “may take some time to get to 100%.”
