Fact Check: CBSE To Cancel Class 12 Board Exams This Year?
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday refuted media reports that it may cancel the Class 12 exams this year.
In a statement, CBSE said, “It is clarified that no such decision has been taken regarding CBSE Class 12 examinations as being speculated in certain sections of the media. Any decision taken in this matter will be officially communicated to the public.”
Earlier on Friday, The Times of India had reported that chances are high that the CBSE may cancel the Class 12 board exams due to the spiralling cases of COVID-19 in the country.
“Given the current situation, there is a possibility of scrapping the exams altogether. CBSE will review the situation and probably would have to work out an alternative assessment scheme for the Class 12 students,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed Education Ministry official as saying.
A senior CBSE official asserted that it is unlikely that exams are going to be conducted anytime soon in the current situation.
However, former CBSE Chairperson Ashok Ganguly exuded confidence that the situation would improve and the Class 12 board exams can be held in July.
On the other hand, other experts advised the board to conduct exams in online mode.
