Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration on Monday refuted a media report that the body of a corona warrior lay for several hours as nobody came forward to help the deceased’s daughter carry it to the cremation site.
According to a report in The New Indian Express on Monday, the body of an anganwadi supervisor of Kankarada village in Sanakhemundi block, who was engaged in COVID duty, lay at a waste dumping yard for several hours before it was taken for cremation in an ambulance on Saturday.
“The daughter of the deceased, Asanta Patra (55), watched helplessly as nobody came forward to help her carry the body to the cremation site,” the report added.
However, the Ganjam Collector’s office took to its official Twitter handle to clarify that the corona warrior had died on way to hospital and her husband brought the body back. It further said that the SDM Berhampur and a team reached the spot immediately and collected swab sample.
Advising people to “please avoid rumours”, the tweet informed that the body was “cremated with dignity”.
