Mumbai: Ever since Salman Khan’s upcoming film ‘Maatrubhumi’ underwent a title change, speculation has been rife that the actor reworked the script to give it an anti-war tone.
However, a fresh report suggests that ‘Maatrubhumi’ was never meant to be a war film. While it is set against the backdrop of the 2020 Indo-China clash, it focuses on a message of peace.
According to India Today report, Salman agreed to do the film on the condition that it would not glorify war.
“For someone who has delivered a film like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman has always believed in the power of cinema to unite rather than divide. He has consciously stayed away from narratives that glorify war for the sake of spectacle. If you look at his body of work, there’s a consistent thread of stories that champion peace, compassion, and humanity above conflict,” a source was quoted as saying by the portal.
The source also said that the film’s original title made many people think it was directly based on the battle.
Even the teaser suggested a tense war setting, showing Salman ready for action in a conflict zone.
After this, the actor decided to change the title and added the line “May war rest in peace” as the film’s slogan.
The source added, “The team wanted to assure audiences that the film would in no way glorify war, as their intention has always been completely opposite.”
The report further revealed that “human side of a soldier, the emotional duality of living two lives, one on the battlefield and one at home.”
