Fact Check: Did Shah Rukh & Ness Wadia Have A ‘Heated Argument’ At IPL Owners Meeting?
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organised a meeting among the 10 IPL franchise owners to discuss various issues on the upcoming season of the T20 league.
Among the topics under deliberation were the nature of auction ahead of IPL 2025, number of player retentions, Right to Match (RTM) card and Impact Player rule.
No decision was taken, but the BCCI described the meeting as a “constructive dialogue” among the franchise owners.
There were media reports that Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and Punjab Kings cow-owner Ness Wadia being involved in an intense argument over player retention policy or RTM card that should be allowed for the scheduled mega auction ahead of next year’s edition of IPL.
However, Wadia dismissed any such heated argument with Shah Rukh.
“I have known Shah Rukh much before the IPL started. I have the utmost regard for him and the family. We go back a long way and there’s absolutely no truth in such baseless reports,” Zoom quoted Wadia as saying.
Wadia said it was a “good brainstorming session” where everyone everyone gave their views and shared their thoughts.
“You have to look at all stakeholders… Our objective is that fans are happier, media is happier, cricketers are happier. That’s why we were here,” Wadia explained.
Others present at the meeting were Kavya Maran of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sanjiv Goenka and his son Shashwat of Lucknow Super Giants, KK Grand and Parth Jindal from Delhi Capitals, Manoj Badale and Ranjit Barthakur from Rajasthan Royals, Prathamesh Mishra from Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kasi Viswanathan and Rupa Gurunath from Chennai Super Kings, Amit Soni from Gujarat Titans.
Mumbai Indians owners Nita Ambani and her sons attended the meeting online from Paris.
