Kolkata: Several celebrities like Team India cricketer Mohammad Shami, poet Joy Goswami and actor-Parliamentarian Dev Adhikari, actor Anirban Bhattacharya have been called for hearings by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in connection with the Special Intensive Revision of voter list in West Bengal.
Now, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has claimed that even Nobel Laureate economist Amartya Sen has been served a notice by ECI.
TMC, which has been in power in West Bengal since 2011, has been engaged in an intense face-off with the poll body over the manner SIR is being conducted in the state.
On Tuesday, TMC general secretary and Diamon Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee said at a public rally in Birbhum that ECI was targeting Bengal and added that he had heard the 92-year-old economist and philosopher has been asked to appear before the ECI.
However, sources in the Election Commission said it is just about a spelling error in the enumeration form and Sen need not appear before the poll body for a hearing.
Due to a mismatch in the system, a computer-generated notice was sent to the eminent economist. The concerned BLO has been instructed to fix the spelling error, sources said.
Sen casts his ballot in Shantiniketan.
