London: Will Twitter be henceforth known by a new name?
Pictures have been circulating on social media showing the letter ‘w’ in its brand name covered up at the San Francisco headquarters of Twitter.
While many netizens felt it was a photoshopped image, Twitter owner Elon Musk on Monday confirmed that the headquarters indeed sports the name ‘Titter’ with ‘w’ being painted in the same colour as the signboard.
“Our landlord at SF HQ says we’re legally required to keep sign as Twitter & cannot remove ‘w’, so we painted it background color. Problem solved!” Musk wrote alongside a picture of the board.
Musk posted a follow-up tweet, punning around the word ‘titter’, which means to giggle.
“They tried to muffle our titter,” Musk wrote.
Last year, the Twitter CEO had joked about renaming the company as ‘Titter’ by conducting a poll in which thousands of users participated. The poll has since been deleted.
A few days ago, Twitter had made headlines when Musk replaced its blue bird logo temporarily with Shiba Inu dog meme.
Ever since he took over the micro-blogging site last October, Musk has been in the news for revamping the company by taking decisions which didn’t go down well with any other stakeholder.
